How to Keep Your Photos Safe and Protect Their Longevity

As amazing as technology is, it does occasionally fail us.
This is something that we need to be prepared for.

EXTERNAL HARD DRIVES

Our recommendation is to back up your photographs and film on at least TWO EXTERNAL HARD DRIVES. This is very easy to do, you just need to format the drive to your computer, and then make a copy of your gallery and full film onto the drive.

Follow the same process for both hard drives.

Below are some external hard drives we recommend:
WD 1 TB External Hard Drive
SanDisk 1 TB External Hard Drive
LaCie 1 TB External Hard Drive

CLOUD STORAGE

Now that your memories are on two or more external hard drives, it is time for the next step.

We highly recommend taking advantage of cloud storage. This is a great option because cloud storage is not physical. Therefore it is accessible from a variety of platforms. Should anything unpredictable happen to your computer and/or external hard drives, you’ll still have a copy of your gallery!

You can achieve this with cloud storage.

For professional purposes, we use Backblaze. However, here are some of the other options we recommend for personal use:

Google Drive
Mega
Drop Box

ALBUMS AND PRINTS

This is our favorite. I mean, can you blame us?!

With physical albums and prints, your memories will be enjoyed more frequently and readily. Imagine your MOST precious memories being enjoyed by friends and family through a beautifully designed heirloom quality album.

We get emotional every time we think about it!

Albums like this make adorable decor for around your home as well. One of our favorite things is going to a friend’s home and seeing their wedding photos hanging around.

On a similar note, we know you can’t print out your film the way you can with your
images. But, we are here to tell you that 2023 is pretty cool! So cool in fact that there ARE albums for your films! HOW CRAZY IS THAT?

We will link them HERE so you can check them out!

Our main point on this subject is; not to put all your eggs in one basket.

When it comes to preserving a digital file, diversity equals security. We strongly suggest doing
all three of the above-mentioned backup methods to ensure the highest level of safety.

They each have their own strengths and blindspots and together make up an
outstandingly disaster-proof system. Thank me later!
